So gengs this time we are on the last text, namely short functional text.

Definition

I'll tell you what the definition of short functional text is.

Short functional texts are types of informational texts to help the readers understand the information quickly.

Purpose

Functional texts are written to help readers perform, or function, in their daily lives.

Types

Just so you know, short functional text has many types. Well, I will only attach 5 types of text along with their generic structure.

1. Advertisement text is a public announcement commonly found in a newspaper, television, or internet advertising.

2. An announcement is a statement made to the public or to the media which gives information about something that has happened or that will happen.

3. Letter writing can be divided into two main types – Formal Letters and Informal Letters. Formal letters are letters that are written for official purposes, whereas informal letters are written about anything you want to let your friends or family know.a

4. The information on food labels is intended to help consumers become savvy about their food choices. The front, back, and sides of a package are filled with information to inform us what the food contains and to provide guidance in making healthier selections of processed foods.

5. A poster is a large sheet that is placed either on a public space to promote something or on a wall as decoration. Typically, posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text.

Structure

1. Advertisement

a). Purpose: What is the purpose of the writer to compose the advertisement text?
b). Name of product: This is about name and brand. What product, service or events to sell?
c). User: Who need the product? What ares the product and service for?

2. Announcement

Opening, content, closing.

3. Letter

Both informal and formal letters are based on a specific structure. A good letter should consist of:

a). An appropriate greeting (Dear Sir/Madam, Dear Kathy, Dear Mr Brown).
b). An introduction clearly stating the reason you are writing.
c). A main body in which the subject is developed. Begin a new paragraph for each main point.
d). A final paragraph in which you sum up the topic or express your wish for something to be done.
e). An appropriate ending (Yours/Best wishes, + first name, Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, + full name).

4. Food label

a). Statement of identity (what type of food is it?)
b). Net contents of the package (how much is in there?)
c). Name and address of manufacturer (where was it produced?)
d). Ingredients list (what ingredients are included in the food?)
e). Nutrition information (what is the amount of nutrients included in a serving of food?)

5. Poster

Header area, tittle area, author's photo and address, main area, footer area, backgrounds, fonts.
