Do You Know Recount Text Is?

So geng, after knowing about description text, now we will also know about a new text which is recount text. To find out what things are or are related to recount text, see my article, okay?

Definition

First, of course, we have to know the definition of recount text.

The recount text type retells an experience or an event that happened in the past. A recount can focus on a specific section of an event or retell the entire story. The events in a recount are usually related to the reader in chronological order; That is, in the order they happened. Recounts are an excellent genre for emergent writers to cut their teeth on.

Types of recount

1. PERSONAL RECOUNT: A Personal Recount text retells an activity in which the writer has been personally involved. Personal recounts often build an intimate relationship between the writer and the reader. Some common types of personal recounts include anecdotes, diary & journal entries, personal letters, etc. While there are some differences, a personal narrative has much in common with a personal recount.

2. PROCEDURAL RECOUNT: A Procedural Recount records the steps in an investigation or experiment, thereby providing the basis for reported results or findings. A procedural recount records events such as a science experiment or cooking. Procedural recounts present the events chronologically (in the order in which they happened). The purpose of procedural recounts is to inform the audience. They differ somewhat from a traditional procedural text.

3. FACTUAL/NEWSPAPER: Factual Recounts report the particulars of an incident by reconstructing factual information, e.g. police reconstruction of an accident, historical recount, biographical and autobiographical recounts. A factual recount is an objective recount of an actual event by someone not personally involved in the situation. Its purpose is either to inform, entertain or both.

4. LITERARY RECOUNT: A Literary Recount retells a series of events for the purpose of entertainment. A literary recount is like a factual recount in many regards. Both provide details about what happened, including who was involved, when and where the event occurred, and what may have resulted. A literary recount can be about real or fictional events and characters.

5. IMAGINATIVE RECOUNT: Applies factual knowledge to an imaginary role to interpret and recount events, e.g. A Day in the Life of a German soldier, How I manned the first mission to the moon. An imaginative recount is retelling events, usually in the first person. This style of recount allows for embellishment beyond facts and events- perfect for creative writing.

Sample

Well, I gave you a sample of a factual type recount text, here it is

Children's Day

On Children's Day in 1999, a technology company treated more than 200 underprivileged children to a 'high-tech' experience. They were given training on information technology.

The company wanted to provide opportunities for these children to learn more about the Internet and the latest technology. They wanted to help the less fortunate in the community.

The children had an enjoyable and educational experience that day. They were exposed to the new technology for the first time and they were very interested. The company hoped to conduct many more such training sessions for these children. They fell that the skills the children had would be useful to them when they grew up.

The company was very active in caring for the less fortunate. They even put aside one day a year for their employees to do volunteer work to help the needy. They also donated money to many charitable organisations.

Writing

I also give you a sample of my recount text and I narrate in my own voice that's of a personal type and this text includes an experience that made an impression on me.

My Life Experience Last Year

December 2022 while on vacation and after my year-end exams I decided to have my eyes checked. I checked my eyes because my right eye had a lump the size of a soybean seed. This lump has been there since the first half of 2022. However, my mother told me to check it during the year-end holidays.

After I was examined I was diagnosed with a conjunctival cyst caused by chronic inflammation. The only way to cure my disease is by surgery. My mom and I were shocked because I had never been operated on before and this operation was the first operation in my life.
